Bitcoin is now worth around $85,000 as of early October 2026. It is down about a third from its all-time high of around $126,000 set one year ago. What will it be on December 31? The Bitcoin Price Prediction End of 2026 Guide explores the opinions of the big banks, factors that will affect the price, and how to evaluate a prediction.
Nobody knows the answer. Forecasts have missed badly this year, and nothing here is financial advice.
Where Bitcoin stands in early October 2026
According to the source of information, on some days in the beginning of October the value fluctuated within the range of around $83,500 and $86,700. According to Fortune, on October 2nd, it was $86,682. This is about 12% higher than a month ago but 28% lower compared to one year ago. The Fear & Greed Index is 72, that is, “Greed”.
During the last year things have been tough. One year ago it cost approximately $120,600, and a month ago, it was $77,300, so in the last 30 days there was a huge turnaround. That’s the starting line for any bitcoin price prediction at the end of 2026, with about 90 days left in the year.
Bitcoin analyst predictions for year-end
The big banks don’t agree with each other. The table shows the main calls reported this year, plus the gain each one needs from $85,000.
Forecaster Target Timeframe Gain Needed Standard Chartered $100,000 End of 2026 About 18% Citigroup $113,000 Next 12 Months About 33% Bernstein: $125,000 to $150,000 End of 2026 About 47% to 76% of the CoinCodex model is $77,000 to $82,000 from Oct to Nov 2026. About 4% to 9% lower
Citigroup increased the target price for 12 months to $113,000 on October 1, from $82,000 in July. Please remember that the target price is for 12 months, not year-end. Citigroup mentioned increased crypto trading volume, improved economic environment, and flow of money into ETFs.
Each number in the table depends on assumptions made regarding money flowing into ETFs, interest rates, and risk appetite.Standard Chartered has cut its original $300,000 call twice and now sits at $100,000, though its analyst said in August that even that might prove too low. Bernstein’s year-end target has been reported at $125,000 to $150,000, and the firm has itself called the high end ambitious.
Bitcoin price drivers to watch
ETF money is the big one. The Discover bitcoin ETF allows individuals to invest in bitcoin using their regular brokerage account. These funds received around $2.65 billion in September, and started October with $103 million more.Steady bitcoin ETF inflows tend to prop up the price, and Citi expects about $5 billion over the next year.
Interest rates matter too. Bitcoin rose in early October as Treasury yields fell and traders cut their bets on another Fed rate hike. Lower yields usually help risky assets. Then there’s mood: retail sentiment on Stocktwits stayed bearish even while the price climbed, so plenty of people still don’t believe this rally.
Rules play a part as well. Citi said a crypto market-structure bill failed in the Senate last month, though new SEC announcements eased some of that worry.
What could hold Bitcoin back?
Forecasts keep moving. Standard Chartered cut its target twice, and Citi lowered its number in July before raising it again. If the banks can’t hold a view for three months, that tells you something.
Money flows can also flip fast. U.S. spot funds lost about $149 million on September 30, the same day Citi published its note. A “greed” reading can mean prices are stretched, which makes a pullback easy to imagine. And the clock matters: with about 90 days left, a big target needs a big move in a short window.
The Bitcoin halving cycle and the 2026 slump
About every four years, the rate of new bitcoin supply gets cut in half. That’s the halving, and the last one was in April 2024. In past cycles, prices peaked a year to a year and a half later, then fell the following year. This cycle’s high came in October 2025, about 18 months after the halving, so many traders treat 2026 as the usual down year. It’s also why some forecasters keep their bitcoin price prediction for the end of 2026 below the banks’ numbers.
Not everyone buys the pattern. Bernstein points out that recent drops of around 50% are milder than the 75% to 90% crashes of the past and argues big institutions may be setting a firmer floor.
Will Bitcoin go up by December? The numbers behind each Bitcoin price prediction end of 2026
Start with the math. Going from about $85,000 to $100,000 takes a gain of roughly 18% in three months. Getting to $113,000 takes about 33%, and $125,000 takes about 47%. Bitcoin has moved that fast before. Citi noted a gain of close to 40% over the past three months.
It can fall just as easily. Add all calls up and the range goes from around $77,000 to $150,000, which is an extremely wide range. An honest bitcoin prediction for the end of 2026 must offer a broad range, since one figure can’t be trusted. How to use a forecast wisely
Since forecasts are educated guesses backed by numbers, consider them scenarios rather than commitments. Start with the time period, for example, a 12-month objective does not mean an end-of-year objective. Check the forecaster’s track record. Be wary of sites that sell trading tips right next to a prediction. The SEC also warns that a famous name praising a product is never a good reason to invest. And don’t put in money you can’t afford to lose. The SEC’s investor alert on crypto assets says the risk of loss for individual investors remains significant.

FAQs
What is the bitcoin price prediction at the end of 2026 from major banks?
They vary a lot. Standard Chartered is quoting at $100,000 while Bernstein has estimated that the price could be between $125,000 and $150,000. The model based estimates, however, are somewhat lower, ranging from the high $70,000s to low $80,000s.
Will Bitcoin reach $100,000 by December 2026?
It needs about 18% from today’s price. That’s possible, since bitcoin rose nearly 40% over the last three months. But it’s far from certain, and no bitcoin price prediction for the end of 2026 can promise it.
Does Citi’s target match a bitcoin price prediction at the end of 2026?
Not quite. Citigroup’s $113,000 target, raised from $82,000 on October 1, covers a full 12 months, so it isn’t a year-end call.
Will Bitcoin hit a new all-time high in 2026?
It would have to pass about $126,000, roughly 47% above today. Only the most bullish bitcoin price predictions at the end of 2026 get there, like the top of Bernstein’s range.
Is bitcoin a good investment right now?
No article can answer that for you. Bitcoin is volatile, and the SEC warns that crypto losses can be significant. Talk to a licensed financial advisor about your own situation.
